BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN...
It was so good to be back in church and preaching again last Sunday after several weeks of illness. As I am writing this, it is Tuesday morning, the day after Memorial Day. I actually slept the entire night last night, which hasn’t happened in weeks, and I awoke without the queasiness that has plagued me during this illness. I am thankful for God’s healing hand, for good physicians and their ministrations, for Heidi’s patience and care, for all of your prayers and messages of concern and support, and for those who have “held down the fort” in my absence. I especially appreciate Mikel for his extra work in my absence, and Caleb and Bro. Richard for filling the pulpit on Wednesdays and Sundays these past few weeks.
As far as what’s upcoming, we have the ordinance of BAPTISM scheduled for this Sunday. It was postponed earlier because of my illness. Both of those who are going to be baptized, Sarah and Tyler, made professions of faith on the International Day of Evangelism on 3/16, when pastors all across the world (including CBC) preached on God’s great plan of salvation from John 3:16. This Sunday, I will be speaking on the subject of “Three Baptisms” as we celebrate the ordinance together.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is coming up fast! VBS will be held each evening beginning at 6:00 from June 8-13. If you have not registered your children, you can do so at our website calvaryof kpt.org. The theme for VBS this year is “MAGNIFIED! Discovering the Bigness of God in the Smallest of Things.” As we look at God’s awesome creation, we will learn about Him as the creator, seeing how big and powerful He is. VBS is for children aged 4 (and fully potty-trained) through those who finished 6th grade this year. Pray for our workers and the children who will attend, and pray about being a part of this annual summer outreach to the children of our community.
FATHER’S DAY is coming up June 15, and I am planning a special message to encourage the fathers in the congregation in their task of bringing up their children in the nurture and instruction of the Lord.
On June 22, we will return to our sermon series on the BOOK OF ACTS. The first message back after our extended break from this study will be called “A Man Out of Time” from Acts 18:24-28. In this passage, we will meet the great preacher Apollos for the first time. That message will bring us to the end of chapter 18, and we will then have 10 chapters of this history of the early church to go! What a great adventure the study has been so far, and I am looking forward to what God is going to reveal in the final 10 chapters.
Looking a little further down the road, we have VILLAGE FEST scheduled for July 12 from 10-2. More information will be forthcoming as we get closer to this event, but mark your calendars now and be praying for VF. Then, on July 14-18, we will be partnering with GLOBAL YOUTH MINISTRIES for a camp
to be held here at CBC. The group that will be traveling here (and staying in the Clubhouse), along with any local youth who desire to be involved, will be be working on mission projects during the day from 9-5, and will be involved in worship services from 6:30 - 8:00. The cost is $100 for the full camp experience and meals, $25 for just materials (no meals), and the evening services are free to anyone - youth or adult - who wants to attend.
It’s going to be a great Summer here at CBC! Make plans to be here at every opportunity. Resist the temptation to make plans not to be here unless you’re traveling for vacation or providentially hindered. And when vacation is over? Get back to your place at the next service, lest you fall into a bad habit of not being in the Lord’s house on the Lord’s day (see Hebrews 10:25). Both church attendance and lack of church attendance are habits, the first a positive habit, and the other a negative habit. Make sure to maintain the positive habit and reject the negative one!
Who do you know who needs to be in church but isn’t? Why not pick up the phone or make the visit right now and invite that person to be your special guest this Sunday?
Numbers 6:24-26,
Bro. Donnie
