It is hard to believe that the summer is almost over. I remember as a child that we would be out of school for three months, going back on the day after Labor Day each year. Of course, I remember when the only school supplies a kid needed each year was a new piece of chalk for his slate-board (OK, I’m not THAT old!).

Saturday, August 1, from 10-12, we will be demonstrating the love of Jesus in a practical way and reaching out to our community’s parents and children with our annual SCHOOL SUPPLY GIVEAWAY. This event not only gives us the opportunity to help with school supplies for the kids, it gives us the chance to pray with the families and give them information about our children and youth programs at Calvary.

Of course, in order to give those supplies away, we have to have them! That’s where you and I come in. And this coming weekend, Friday, July 24 through Sunday, July 26, is a great time to gather the supplies as it is the Tennessee State Tax-Free Weekend. The following is the list of school supplies we need, and all of them will be tax free this weekend (pour that ~10% savings into more school supplies!).

We need:

  • 12 pack #2 pencils - preferably Ticonderoga
  • 24-count box Crayola crayons
  • 12-count box colored pencils
  • Highlighters
  • Black dry-erase fine-tip markers
  • Glue sticks
  • Primary composition notebooks
  • Regular composition notebooks
  • Spiral notebooks
  • Wide-ruled notebook paper
  • 3-prong pocket folders
  • 2-inch three-ring binders
  • Wired headphones
  • Wired earbuds
  • Blunt-tip scissors
  • Tissues
  • Clorox wipes
  • We also need backpacks as the North American Mission Board did not supply them as in years past.

Please bring all of the items to the downstairs Fellowship Hall (which is where the event will be held). If you get them between now and then, you can bring them on Sunday, or else Monday through Thursday during office hours of 9-2. If you are available to help with arranging the items, be at the church at 1:00 on Friday, July 31, and if you want to help with the giveaway itself, be there from 10-12 Saturday, August 1.
