Mikel Caywood was born July 22, 1962, in Cleveland, Tennessee. He was saved at the age of fourteen at Hopewell Baptist Church, and called to the gospel ministry several years later. He was ordained in 1983 by Covenant Baptist Church in Cleveland, and has served in churches in Texas and Arkansas. He joined the staff of Calvary Baptist Church in 1998.
He holds the Associate of Music Degree (1982) from Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee; the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (1984) from Carson Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee; the Master of Religious Education degree (1988) from The Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Mikel is very involved in community outreach in the Tri-Cities area. In addition to participating with Meals-on-Wheels, he helps distribute commodities quarterly, and regularly mows yards for our shut-ins. He is also the president of the Upper East Tennessee Music Minister's Association and serves as an officer in the Tennessee Men's Chorale.
He and his wife, Dana, were married in 1984, and they have three children.
David, born 1987, is married to Nikki. David serves as Program Director, and Nikki is in charge of guest services for Global Youth ministries in Chatsworth, Georgia. They homeschool their two children: Crissie Grace and Daxton.
Their second son, James, is married to Charli. James is self-employed and owns Caywood Lawn Care. Charli is a homemaker and homeschools their three sons: Noah, Abraham, and Silas.
Todd is their youngest son, and he is married to Samantha ("Sam"). Todd works as "Performance Management Lead" at Eastman. Samantha is a homemaker and is working on her master's degree. They have five children: Delaney, Milo, Lena, Israel, and Malachi.
